Workshop: The kimono - more than just a piece of clothing

The kimono, the traditional dress of Japanese women, is a mystery for many Europeans. In post-1945 Japan, the kimono was initially only worn on official occasions and soon acquired a stuffy image. Even the Japanese themselves are often no longer able to correctly fold and tie a kimono. Among young people, however, kimonos are currently undergoing a major revival and are also enjoying growing popularity abroad. In her workshop, Maria Deutsch from the City of Yokohama Frankfurt Office will present the history and significance of the garment. Participants will also see a live demonstration of how to put on a kimono.

In cooperation with “The City of Yokohama Frankfurt Office” und “Frankfurt-Yokohama Citizens Network e.V.”
