JAPAN : SHIFTED – Exhibition

  • Curated by Jiré E. Gözen

In the JAPAN : SHIFTED exhibit, German and Japanese artists tell their story of the disaster of 3/11 beyond the usual media images. These tender personal experiences speak not only of the events, but of Japan itself. Thus, the external perspective is augmented by an internal one. Circling around a centre represented by nature and its powers, the works shift from a “before” to the catastrophic events and an “after”. The exhibit is curated by Jiré E. Gözen.

The artists:
Sven Ingmar Thies (Vienna) - JAPANESE ROOMS (Photography)
Christina Zimmermann & Dominique Turzer (Basel) - SHIFTING GROUND (Video)
Shunsuke Francois Nanjos (Tokyo) - AND AFTER, THERE WILL BE A NEW PLACE FOR US (Installation)
Hironori Murai (Tokyo) - PICNIC FROM EAST OF EDEN
Jiré E. Gözen (Tokyo/Berlin) - NEVERLAND (Photography)

The exhibit is presented in cooperation with the text initiative Fukushima at the Department for Japanese Studies at Goethe-University, Frankfurt, the Board of Culture of the City of Frankfurt, and the Nakama endowment fund of Goethe University, Frankfurt.
