Nippon Visions
“In Japan, everything has changed after 3-11. Films from 2010 seem like the distant past. Some seem empty now.” During the film selection process a Japanese colleague describes what will without doubt manifest itself in Japanese cinema of the upcoming years: a shift has occurred that cannot be undone. Filmmakers and artists alike have been facing a situation that defies description and that still raises the question of adequate artistic expression. Free filmmaking, which has been developing and professionalising itself in Japan during the recent years, might play an important role in finding the right voices for a changing society. Once more, NIPPON CONNECTION presents some of the most interesting works in this field and will award the most promising feature length director with a free subtitling of an upcoming project. The NIPPON VISIONS AWARD is made possible through our partner and sponsor Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy (JVTA).
